BITS - Pilani sets up cut-offs for each of the branches of study. This cut-off listing includes B.E., B.Pharm and Integrated M.Sc courses. These cut-offs are based on both student performance in BITSAT 2010 online exams and also on the student preferences on branches of study.

The cut-off BITSAT scores for admissions to I Semester 2010-11 to different programmes are given below. This is given here for information on the request of many candidates. Candidates should note that the cut-off scores vary from year to year.

BITSAT 2011 EXAM PATTERN

There will be 150 questions in all. The number of questions in each part is as follows:

All questions are multiple choice questions with four options, only one being correct. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer fetches -1 mark. No marks are awarded for not attempted questions.

Candidates can skip questions/ mark questions for further 'review', can go back and change any of their answers among the 150 questions, but are not allowed to choose more than one option as correct answer. All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only.

BITSAT is a three hour exam and there is no time limit for individual parts of the test.

Additional Questions:

BITSAT unlike other competitive exams gives a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) additional questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics only; with four questions from each part. But, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/ she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 150 questions.

Unique question paper for each candidate:

Since BITSAT is conducted over a period of time, different candidates will get different question sets. The questions are selected at random from a large question bank. BITSAT expert committee ensures that the question sets are of comparable difficulty level, content, question type etc.

I am unable to access the Online application. Can you send the application form by email or post?	The application cannot be sent by email. If you get any specific error while applying, please send an email to admnoc@bits-pilani.ac.in for help with details. If you are unable to apply online in spite of all efforts, please obtain the form by post as explained in the advertisement.
I have taken Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2.Am I Eligible to Apply for BITSAT.	For BITSAT 2010 Candidates should have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2.
I have completed the online application. But, I have not taken a print out. How can I get a print out now?	You can go to the applying online page again and enter the personal details AND the application number. You will be taken to the printout page again. If you have forgotten your application number, and If you have not posted the form, apply afresh with another application number.
I have made a mistake while entering some data in my application form. How can I edit/correct it?	If you have not posted the form, apply afresh with another application number. If you have already sent the form by post to admissions office, You cannot edit it Online. If the mistake is minor, you can send a written signed request for the correction. However, if you want to change the center preferences, you will have to apply afresh with a new application fees.
My 12th exam results are not expected before 30th June. Should I apply for BITSAT-2010?	For admissions to I semester staring in August, you should have your result before 30th June. Otherwise, we make a few admissions to II semester starting in January for which you can apply. Keeping that in mind, you may appear in BITSAT-2010.
I passed 12th in 2009. I didn't get 80% aggregate in PCM .Am I eligible if I repeat some of the subjects to get the required 80% marks?	If you are repeating 12th exam, you should do it for the all the subjects required to pass 12th again. If you take improvement exams in PCM . only, you are not eligible.
What are the tuition and other fees and expenses?	The fee details for 2010-11 are yet to be finalised. The details will be available at BITS website by March.
I passed 12th exam in 2009. Am I eligible to appear for BITSAT-2010?	As advertised, are eligible to Apply for BITSAT -2010.
I had appeared in BITSAT-2009 but my marks were below the cut-off marks. Can I appear in BITSAT-2010?	Yes. as advertised subject to eligibility conditions you can apply again for BITSAT-2010.
What is the application procedure for NRIs?	There is no separate procedure for NRIs.
What is the application procedure for candidates with foreign qualifications?	There is no separate procedure. They have to apply similar to Indian students.
How am I Eligible for admission to M.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc.(Tech.) programmes after 12th?	The M.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc.(Tech.) programmes are integrated 4-year masters programme after 12th. There is no intermediate BSc. degrees awarded.
I have passed 12th in the year 2008 (or earlier). I am now doing my higher studies (B.Sc./B.E./Diploma) in another college. Can I apply for BITSAT-2010?	You are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010.

BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) 2009 Application Forms

BITSAT is computer based online test for Admission to Integrated First Degree Programmes; First Semester 2009-10

BITS, Pilani is an Institution declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. Admissions to all the Integrated First Degree programmes of BITS, Pilani at Pilani campus, Goa Campus and Hyderabad Campus, for the academic year 2009-10 will be made on the basis of a Computer based Online Test called ‘BITS Admission Test-2009’, in short as BITSAT-2009.

Interested candidates should register for BITSAT-2009 by applying in the prescribed application form at www.bitsadmission.com. The printout of the filled form alongwith the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female candidates) should be sent to Admissions officer, BITS, Pilani-333031. Details for payment of fees are available at the website while applying online.

BITSAT 2009 Application forms can also be obtained by post till 21st January 2009 from the office of the under-mentioned by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name, and gender with complete postal address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 600/- for Female candidates).

BITSAT 2009 Salient Features

The candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the monitor and the candidate submits his answers through the use of key board or mouse.
The computer is connected to the server, which delivers the test, in real time through a reliable connectivity.
The online tests are conducted at several centers in India, during May-June every year
Candidate can choose the center, the date and time for the test, as per his/her convenience, while applying for the tests.
The advertisement calling for applications are normally released in December.
The score is made available to the candidate on the screen immediately after the test and thus is designed to be transparent.
The test will have Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency and Logical reasoning, and Mathematics parts and is of 3 hours duration.
All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions) and based on NCERT syllabus.
The test is so designed that it doesn't require the candidate to have any special computer skill.
A sample test is made available to the registered candidates at the BITS Website on which he/she can practice as many times as desired.
The questions are selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets, but of same difficulty level and content.
BITSAT uses latest technologies for security and test delivery. The architecture uses high end servers, microsoft software platform, firewalls and Virtual private networks.

Dual Degree Scheme at Bits-Pilani

To meet the ambitions of the students who could not get admission to B.E.(Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.) programmes, the Institute has created facilities by which any student who is admitted to M.Sc.(Hons.) programmes is accommodated in a dual degree scheme for a second degree in B.E.(Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.) programmes. This assignment is made by competition on their performance at BITS at the end of first year, separately in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Students who have taken Mathematics in BITSAT will be considered under “First Priority” category for allotment of dual degree and almost ensured to get a dual degree allotment. Students who have taken Biology in BITSAT will be required to take additional remedial Mathematics course and they will be able to apply for dual degree only under the “Other priorities” category which is operated after satisfying the known needs of “First Priority” category.

The last date for submission of completed forms is 29th November 2008.Only those candidates who have passed their 12th year examination in 2008 or 2007 and have appeared in BITSAT-2008 will be included in the merit list for admission. MSC Dual Degree - A Complete guide

This is meant for all the aspirants who’d like to know more about the MSc. Courses at BITS Pilani (Pilani , Goa , Hyderabad Campuses) and the Dual Degree Scheme.

Q.1)What are these MSc. Courses?

A.1)MSc. Courses are Science-based courses , similar to that offerred in other Institutions.

In BITS they are of 2 types :

1)MSc.(Hons) in Physics , Chemistry , Maths ,Economics ,Biology
2)MSc.(Tech) in Information Systems , Finance , General Studies , Engineering Technology

Q.2)What is this Dual Degree Scheme?

A.2) All MSc. (Hons) (and not Tech) will get an assured BE Degree , alloted to them at the end of the 1st year , based on their CGPA for 1st year.

Q.3)Is it tough to get a good dual?

A.3) For CS or EEE , you need an above average CGPA , while Mech./Chem/Civil can be got at lower CGPAs too.But you will get some BE Dual assured .

Q.4)So what Degrees do I pass out with?

A.4)You get a BE and an Integrated Msc and you spend 5 years.Integ MSc. basically is BSc + MSc combined ,and it can be done by a 12th pass student.Time duration for it is 4 yrs(without a Dual).

Q.5)So , you basically waste another year?

A.5)Thats a bad way of saying it.

You get another degree from BITS , and you get 2 Practice Schools(intern Ships)(i.e. 1 year).So basically you spend that extra year working.

And that MSc. does help when applying abroad.

Q.6)Then why are the cutoffs low?

A.6)Because most people are uninformed and don’t have a clue about the Dual Degree Scheme.But then again , no other insti in India offers this , so such flexibilities are rare in India.

2)BE + BE: Offerred to only Top 10 students in each campus.Pref choices incl. Mech + EnI , CS + EEE.Time = 5yrs , 2PS2s

3)MSc. + MSc.:Offerred at lower CGPAs.Very rare.Preferred incl. MSc.Phy + MSc.Maths(5yrs)

4)MSc.(Tech) + BE Dual :rare , offerred to only very high CGPA people.(5yrs)

Based on BITSAT Marks and vacancies

1)Campus Transfers:Very rare , not advisable to join a campus thinking you can get out later.Basically it happens at the end of 1st sem.Your BITSAT marks only matter. Along with 2nd sem admission ppl , all BITSAT Marks are arranged in descending order and seats(based on vacancies , usually in Chemical and Bio Sci , Pharma) are alloted.

Remember that for 1st year ALL students in BITS do exactly the same courses , so getting a Dual through MSc. Chem is same as for MSc. Phy .

2nd year , most courses are the same .

3rd year , BE students will do their Core Courses for their BE Degree.MSc ppl will do for their MSc.

4th yr , BE Students will go for PS2(1 sem) and will do a few extra courses in the other sem(Very light sem).MSc. ppl will do their Dual Degree Core Courses.

5th yr BE students will have passed out.MSc. students will now go for PS2 for 2 sems.

BITSAT score is the main and only criteria for attaining admission in the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani. Intelligent studying is the key to getting good scores. Read on to find out more.

* It is essential to cover only the prescribed syllabus. More the time you spend on studying outside the syllabus, the more time you may be wasting on questions that might not even be included in the final BITSAT

* Since the test is computer based, you should have at least a working knowledge of the same

* It is a good idea to start by revising your 11th and 12th standard NCERT syllabus for mathematics, physics and chemistry

* For additional preparation you can also rely on numerous reference books easily available in the market. Stick to the ones recommended by other students who have already studied from them

* Reference books should provide you with a wide variety of multiply choice questions, covering the entire syllabus

* Don’t rush into taking mock BITSAT’s. You should cover the entire syllabus once and practice from reference books at least 2-3 times before attempting the preparation test for BITSAT

* You should be thorough with basic concepts and formulaes

* You are not allowed to use a calculator for solving mathematical questions. It is, thus, important to brush up on your calculation skills

* Study from a good quality study material for the reasoning section of BITSAT. Try to devote a specific amount of time to the preparation of this section daily, as you might not have studied reasoning in your 11th or 12th standard

* At the time of the exam, start with the section you are most confident about

* As there is a negative marking of 1 marks for every incorrect answer, try to avoid wild guessing. However, a calculated guess will not do too much harm. Remove the option which is least likely to be correct. Guessing from 3 options would obviously reduce the risk factor a great deal

* Time management can help you succeed in BITSAT. Allocate a specific time to every section and try to complete the section within that time frame

* Don’t get stuck at one question. If you are getting confused and are unable to find the right answer, skip the question

Bitsat Test Pattern

BITSAT online test consists of 150 questions. It is an objective test with each question carrying 4 options. For every correct answer you would get 3 marks. Every incorrect answer would lead to a negative marking of 1 mark.The test will be of total 3-hour duration (without break). The test consists of four parts:

The Break up 150 questions are

Part I : Physics ( 40 Questions )

Part II : Chemistry ( 40 Questions )

Part III : (a) English Proficiency and ( 15 Questions )
(b) Logical Reasoning ( 10 Questions )

Part IV : Mathematics ( 45 Questions )

There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 150 questions at any point of time.

If a candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics only; four questions from each part. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 150 questions.

All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only.

All centers are closely monitored for security and candidates’ identity and activities will be recorded using web cameras and/or closed circuit TV cameras. Anyone violating the rules of the test center will not be allowed to continue with the test and will be automatically disqualified.

BITSAT is a computer-based online entrance test for the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. BITS, a deemed university, is an all-India Institute for advance education. It awards it own degrees. The Institute grants admission for its Integrated First Degree programs on the basis of BITSAT. The BITSAT is common for the Pilani,Goa and Hyderabad campuses of BITS. Around 1,50,000 students attended BITSAT-2010. Less than 2% (2000) of the students are selected every year.

BITSAT is the first complete online based admission procedure for any undergraduate course in India. These online tests are conducted at 21 centers in India, during the months of May and June every year.
